Dental Bridge
Lakewood, CA

Rendering of jaw with dental bridge done at Lakewood Dental Arts in Lakewood, CAA dental bridge can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge can even be used to replace an entire arch of teeth. When referring to a dental bridge, we define it as multiple false fixed teeth that are anchored with either healthy teeth or dental implants. A dental bridge can be an excellent tool to restore missing teeth, improving your look and your function. Working with our team at Lakewood Dental Arts, we can help you have a healthier smile.

Most often, when patients think of a dental bridge, they picture the traditional device of a false tooth that is anchored by two dental crowns fitted over two healthy teeth. This may be a common approach, but a dental bridge can be customized and accommodating.

A dental bridge today can be anchored with any mixture of healthy natural teeth or dental implants. A dental implant is a surgically placed post in your jawbone. With the implant, we have the same firm post that we have with a healthy natural tooth. A dental bridge can be customized to be fitted over these posts to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or even an entire arch of teeth.

The main difference between a dental bridge and a partial denture or even a full denture, is its ability to stay firmly in place or be removable. A dental bridge is a non-removable, permanent prosthetic. Even if we are replacing all of your teeth on an arch, we do that by first placing the supportive implants and then permanently placing the bridge over the implants. The device is firmly stabilized and not removable.

Types of Dental Bridge Prosthetic Devices

There are different types of dental bridge prosthetics depending on your needs. Variations include:
•  Traditional Bridge: The traditional bridge is supported on either end by a natural tooth or a dental implant with the false teeth between. This is the most common type of bridge applied.
•  Maryland Bridge: A Maryland Bridge is supported by two wings on either end of a tooth. Most often used for a front tooth, the Maryland Bridge is a tooth with metal wings, the wings are attached to the backside of your natural teeth.
•  Cantilever Bridge: A Cantilever Bridge is a bridge that is supported or anchored on only one side versus two. This is a less common dental bridge.
•  All-on-4® Treatment Concept: The All on 4 treatment is a full arch dental bridge. This procedure includes the attachment of a full denture device permanently in place over four dental implants. This is known as a full arch bridge.
